Euro-festival 2010: Scottish Sword Dance

This year the International Development Council for Academic Studies (IDCAS), in conjunction with Frewin Society (its cultural and heritage partner body), organised both single and double day trips for students to the 2010 Euro-festival (29th and 30th July).

The inaugural European People’s Festival was held in Libramont, Belgium in July 1992 and has gone from strength to strength since then.

It is described as a “pan European Festival of sports, music, cultural performances, cookery demonstrations, street theatre, photography and painting competitions”.

A colourful opening parade, featuring all fifteen participating European Teams, took place on Sunday 25th July although unfortunately due to the IDCAS AGM taking place that day in London (UK) many students were unable to attend until today.

Many interesting European cultural performances were hosted during the day and feedback received was positive so far.

Cultural teams present at the festival this year are as follows;

  • Aranda De Duero – Spain
  • Athlone – Ireland
  • Bad Segeberg – Germany
  • Cantanhede – Portugal
  • Dunoon – Scotland
  • Raseborg – Finland
  • Frederikssund – Denmark
  • Gargzdai – Lithuania
  • Libramont – Belgium
  • Loutraki – Greece
  • Rezekne – Latvia
  • San Vito Chietino – Italy
  • Schifflange – Luxembourg
  • Szentendre – Hungary
  • Thouarsais Saint Sulpice – France
