Yesterday Mark Bannon attended a major agricultural event called “Sheep 2010″. It was organised as a joint project by Teagasc, University College Dublin, Sheep Ireland, Bord Bia and The Irish Farmers’ Journal. The location for “Sheep 2010″ was the UCD Lyons Research Farm in Newcastle, Co. Dublin. According to prior estimates it was to attract up to 9,000 visitors on the day.
Brendan Smith TD, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food formally opened proceedings which included seminars regarding Electronic identification (EID), Animal health, Sheep breeding and the market prospects for lamb.
Other activities which took place at the event included sheep dog trials, fencing competitions, cookery demonstrations and various national sheep breed competitions.
